Urban Renewal Strategy Review - Public Engagement Stage


The major events organised at the Public Engagement Stage include:

  1. Road Shows (eight sessions from May to October 2009)
  2. Public Forums (five sessions from May to November 2009)
  3. Topical Discussions (eight sessions from May to October 2009)


Road Shows

  Road Show Objectives
Provide information on the key issues on URS Review as identified by the community at the Envisioning Stage.
Introduce Hong Kong's current policy on urban renewal; the relevant experience of other Asian cities and the possible options on urban renewal.
Invite public views on the urban regeneration issues and the possible options.
Collect public views on the URS Review through surveys and face-to-face interviews.
   
  Road Shows Details
Eight Road Shows will be held in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon East, Kowloon West and Tsuen Wan. Two Road Shows, each lasting five days, will be held in each district.

* The Road Shows will be held from Thursday to Monday, with the opening hours from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m (except Road Show 1 from 11:00am to 11:00pm.).

   
  Collection of Views
Visitors are welcome to express their views on the URS Review through video recording. Relevant recordings may be uploaded onto the URS Review Website. In addition, visitors may fill in the opinion forms and take part in the face-to-face interviews conducted by the organiser.
Representatives from the organiser will also attend the road shows to solicit the public views on the URS Review directly.

Public Forums

  Public Forum Objectives
Present the key issues identified by the community at the Envisioning Stage and the urban regeneration experience of other Asian cities.
Collect public views on urban regeneration through interactive discussion.
   
  Public Forum Details
There will be five Public Forums in total, each accommodating around 200 persons, members of the public are welcome to participate the Public Forums.
The first four Public Forums will be held in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon East, Kowloon West and Tsuen Wan. The last Public Forum will be a summary session which tentatively will be held in Hong Kong Island.

  Discussion and Recording
Each Public Forum will be facilitated by a specialist in urban renewal. Each Forum will consist of the following sessions:
 
  1. Presentation by organiser – A presentation on the key issues identified by the community at the Envisioning Stage and the urban regeneration experience of other Asian cities
  2. Presentation by public – Interested parties are invited to make an oral or powerpoint presentation of up to 5 minutes to express their or their organisation's views on urban renewal. Please register in advance and the organiser will inform successful applicants in due course
  3. Open forum – Public comments and discussions are welcome
The summary of discussion will be uploaded onto the URS Review website after each Public Forum.
The organiser may make audio and / or video recordings during the Public Forum for internal reference. All recordings will be kept confidential. The organiser may also take photos during the Public Forum for future publicity.

  Discussion and Recording
Each Topical Discussion session will focus on one specific topic with the following sessions:
 
  1. Public presentation – Interested parties are invited to make an oral or powerpoint presentation of up to 5 minutes to express their or their organisation's views on urban renewal. Please register in advance and the organiser will inform successful applicants in due course
  2. Group Discussions – Participants will be divided in groups to conduct in-depth discussion on the specific topic
  3. Group reporting & open discussions – Each group will report the gist of their discussion, followed by open and interactive discussions
The summary of discussion will be uploaded onto the URS Review website after each Topical Discussion session.
The organiser may make audio and / or video recordings during the Topical Discussion session for internal reference. All recordings will be kept confidential. The organiser may also take photos during the Topical Discussion session for future publicity.
